Since the soap is authentic and artisanal, do not be surprised by the following possible observations:
- Weight: Your 300g cube only weighs 270g?! Don't panic. The weight of Marseille soap is taken on fresh soap and then constantly fluctuates during drying. Marseille soap is subject to desiccation, it dries out. Therefore, as it dries, it loses weight. Over time, the water evaporates. Depending on its level of drying, the soap can weigh from 5% to about 25% less than its fresh weight (220g for a 300g soap). You don't lose out! The drier it gets, the better it is, and the more economical its use.
- Degree of drying: The soap is produced in a just-in-time manner by the Le Sérail soap factory. Its degree of drying varies depending on the production date. The more recent it is, the more "moist" the soap will be. Do your soaps seem too soft for your taste? You just need to let it dry in the open air upon receipt. The weather and especially the humidity level also play a role in the manufacturing and drying process.
- White film: A white film may appear on unrefined quality soaps depending on the humidity level. No, no, it's not mold. It results from artisanal manufacturing, particularly from washing the soap paste with salt water. It's simply the salt that appears as the water evaporates from the unrefined soaps. If it bothers you visually, just run the soap under water and rub it to make it disappear. But it's a sign of quality.
- Color: The color of the soap may vary. Depending on the color of the oils used, darker or lighter depending on the production, the color of the finished product fluctuates. As it dries, Marseille soap lightens or takes on another hue. Olive Marseille soap lightens. These colors and their variations are natural and characteristic of artisanal and unrefined soaps.
